Groove Nation 2015

Summer is basically the time for you to do anything you want. I had no school to worry about which meant I could practically do anything. One thing I love doing every summer is that I enroll in dance classes. Back in 2011, I enrolled in Trumpets Playshop but I enrolled in musical theatre. In 2012 up until 2014, I enrolled in dance, still at Trumpets. This year, I did something different. I said goodbye to Trumpets and said hello to Groove Central.

Earlier in the year, my brother Jake and I went jogging around UP. Because I wasn't used to jogging a lot anymore, I went back to our car, which was parked in front of Palma Hall, to sit down and take a breather. After a while, Jake came back, only to be surprised that the car parked beside us was Coach Vimi's. He's the coach at AirForce, LSGH's dance club. Jake was part of it. He told Coach Vimi that I was interested in joining GC this year and asked for a reccomendation. I was very unsure of what to join when Jake asked me which class I was joining. Seeing Musicology, GC's recital last year, I was in awe of how good the students were. I was self-conscious because I wasn't certain of how good or maybe even how bad I am at dancing.

I enrolled in Intermediate, also coached by Coach Vimi, I was late to class by a week and a day. Before I joined the classes, I had to have my clearance form signed and it was stressful. I came in when my classmates had finished the first part of a song. I learned the second part on my first day. Fun fact: I have never attended a first day of my summer classes, ever. Even in Trumpets. It was a fun experience being in dance class again, after a year or so. One thing I love about GC, Is that I not only learn the choreography, I also got to know more about my character as a dancer.

I learned that you really should lower down your pride. I know that there will always be someone better than me, even if my mom thinks that I'm the best. Haha. Another thing with dancing is that you don't really have to be good at it. You should always enjoy what your doing otherwise you're just wasting your time.

Recital day came and I enjoyed every bit of it. I loved seeing the performances of the other classes and of course, seeing ACDT, AirForce, UPSDT, and Legit Status perform. Honestly, I think Legit Status was the most solid performance. It was amazing and inspiring. Plus, I love how Coach Vimi choreographed Bad Blood. If you didn't know, he's also the coach of Legit and ACDT.

If I were to sum up the day, it'd be the recital and meeting old friends. I met a friend from school who transferred to PSHS, a friend from Trumpets 2013, and a friend from AirForce who I haven't seen in two years or so. It was good seeing their faces and talking to them face-to-face again.

The only thing that I hated about the day was that when I got a video of some of the performances, it didn't have any audio. I mean, do you know how awkward it is to watch a dance video without the music?
